- Patrícia Costa, Brazilian, from Piauí, living in Maranhão, and graduated in Industrial Design. She's had the line at her fingertips since childhood, when she sketched an everyday scene on a piece of paper. Since then, she's created many other pieces on paper and other materials.
In the quest to free oneself from realism, to deconstruct standards, to accept herself more and to see the perfection in the imperfect, a new way of representing emerged. The free lines scribbled on paper gave her the freedom that she was looking for so much, moving from a realistic standard, considered perfect, to a free, more figurative representation, creating not only faces but also an entire scene with its own essence, representing everyday life and feelings.
This whole process was like a rebirth. "Looking at the free lines drawn on paper is like looking at a cloud and telling a story with its shapes. It's reality and imagination in the meeting of lines."
"Of course, there're times when I just want to create for the sake of creating. And cause of these moments of letting go of concepts and style, new techniques are revealed to us that you never imagined using and that contribute to your creative process. So, allow yourself! I believe that's what art is, it's allowing yourself to be free to express what you want, in whatever way you want."
